Sony Pushing Google TV Update to Blu-ray Players

Sony Pushing Google TV Update to Blu-ray Players

If you have a Blu-ray player with Google TV enabled and you’ve been waiting for an update, then you’re in luck. Last night the Google TV Team’s Twitter account revealed that Sony has begun releasing updates for their Blu-ray players that include performance enhancements for Chrome, as well as the ability to watch 3D Blu-ray movies.

The update should be rolling out automatically, but if you haven’t seen it yet, you can nab the update manually by checking your Settings, About, and System Updates. The current update is around 260MB in size.

If you’ve already gotten the update, let us know how you like it and if the performance enhancements enabled for Chrome really make a difference by hitting us up in the comments.

I had a sony bluray and did not care for it. Preferred the Revue.

Sony’s keyboard was awkward and the system, even with a slightly beefier processor, seemed laggy.
That is not to say anything about how awful the sony branded software was, it was somehow worse than logitech’s, which is a feet unto itself.

Lastly, If the box had the ability to play NON DVD / Blu Ray disks in the optical drive I would have happily overlooked it’s faults. I have avi, mp4 etc movies on dvd-r and I found no way to read those on either sony’s disk software, or through the file system.

The only positive with the sony device, is they actually are committed to supporting their customers and the GTV Ecosystem.
